Jacqueline Carthen is a doctoral student at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in the Rehabilitation Counseling and Rehabilitation Counselor Education program. She has more than ten years of experience working with children and families with a variety of concerns and adheres to a developmental model of supervision. She believes the goal of supervision is to provide an authentic and beneficiary experience to the supervisee.

A developmental approach to supervision allows the supervisor to facilitate competence, evaluation, and protecting the welfare of both the client and supervisee. By concentrating on skill improvement, cognitive, and affective processes, the supervisor can successfully guide the supervisee through their professional development. Recognizing the supervisee’s development is an essential task to providing comprehensive, supportive, and effective supervision.
